"We've been known as the entertainment capital of the Olympic Peninsula for more than 30 years." — Sequim Gazette
That's how Erick Millers, director of marketing for 7 Cedars Resort Properties, described the space at 7 Cedars in Blyn back in July, right before it reopened under a new name. If you've driven Highway 101 through Blyn this summer, you've probably clocked the new marquee. Club Seven, the room that's hosted concerts and banquets at the casino for years, is now Club Nova. On Sunday, Sept. 6, Holy Carp took the stage at 6 p.m., closing out the free concert series that introduced the new room to the Peninsula in mid-August.
That part is easy to notice. The part worth paying attention to is what happens after the free summer series ended, because Club Nova wasn't built as a summer promotion. It's the centerpiece of a remodel touching three different rooms inside 7 Cedars at once, and in the four weeks since it opened, at least one homegrown Sequim institution has already claimed it for the biggest night of its year.
Club Seven wasn't torn down and started over. It was expanded and rebuilt in place, with more floor space and capacity, a completely redesigned bar, and new sound and lighting, according to 7 Cedars' own remodel page. The name change reflects the scale of the work rather than a marketing reset. The room is described as the next stage of the same reputation Club Seven built over three decades, now sized for both touring acts and community events like weddings and banquets that need real capacity.
The free concert series that ran from opening night gave locals a no-cost reason to walk in and see it for themselves. Here's the full lineup, pulled from 7 Cedars' event calendar:
| Date | Act | Genre |
|---|---|---|
| Fri, Aug 14 | Black Diamond Junction | 70s and 80s classics |
| Sat, Aug 15 | The Red Not Chili Peppers | Red Hot Chili Peppers tribute |
| Fri, Aug 21 | Three Too Many | High-energy modern alternative rock |
| Sat, Aug 22 | Chicago Tribute Authority Seattle | Chicago tribute |
| Fri, Aug 28 | Bread & Gravy | Americana, blues, rock, soul |
| Sat, Aug 29 | Petty Fever | Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers tribute |
| Fri, Sept 4 | Renegade | Blues rock |
| Sat, Sept 5 | The Olson Brothers Band | PNW country rock |
| Sun, Sept 6 | Holy Carp | Pop, rock, blues, jazz, soul, country |
Nine shows in twenty-four days represented a real investment in getting people through the door before the room shifted to its regular booking calendar. If you meant to see the new space during the free series, the Sept. 6 Holy Carp show was the last chance to get in for free.
Club Nova is the visible piece, but it isn't the only room 7 Cedars touched this year. Bear's Bourbon Bar, the property's whiskey lounge, is getting an exterior facelift with lighter design finishes and a new video wall for sports, while keeping its own Friday and Saturday lineup of local musical acts, separate from the Club Nova series. The West Side Gaming Floor is being redone too, with custom carpet, new tile, digital way-finders, and lighter slot cabinets replacing the older setup.
Put those three projects side by side and a pattern shows up that's easy to miss if you only clock the new sign out front. For years, the most visible growth at 7 Cedars showed up as new construction, most notably the five-story, 100-room hotel tower that opened in August 2020. This year's money is going somewhere different. It's going back into the rooms people already walk into on a Tuesday night, not into new square footage.
The clearest sign that Club Nova is more than a rebrand showed up fast. The Sequim Athletic Educational Foundation booked the room for the third-annual Sequim Hall of Fame induction dinner on Saturday, Sept. 12, just four weeks after the space opened. A Friday night meet-and-greet on the 7 Cedars Casino patio brings back 2024 and 2025 inductees to welcome this year's class, which includes the 1970-71 Sequim High School football team, the 1983-84 volleyball team, and individual honorees spanning classes from 1938 to 2011.
This isn't a small side event. The inaugural 2024 dinner raised about $28,000 for Sequim High athletics, funding new wrestling mats, a sound system for the athletic field, and pole vault and high jump equipment. In 2025, sponsorships and a live auction brought in more than $50,000. That's real money moving through a room that, a month earlier, was still under construction. The nonprofit had two years of fundraising history behind it.
That's the difference between a venue that exists for out-of-town visitors and one that's already folded into the town's own traditions. Blyn didn't just get a bigger stage. Within a month, the Sequim Athletic Educational Foundation had booked Club Nova for a hometown event.
A few practical notes if Club Nova is now part of your weekend rotation. The Sept. 6 Holy Carp show at 6 p.m. was the last free night before the room moved to its regular booking schedule, which made it an easy low-cost way to see the new layout in person. Bear's Bourbon Bar keeps its own Friday and Saturday local music lineup regardless of what's happening at Club Nova, so that end of the building stays a lower-key option on nights when the main room is booked for a private event. And the casino patio, the same spot hosting the Hall of Fame meet-and-greet on Sept. 11, functions as open gathering space outside of ticketed events, which is worth knowing if you're just stopping in with friends rather than buying a show ticket.
If you're riding or walking the Olympic Discovery Trail, which runs close by, 7 Cedars is set up as a natural stop with bike rentals available for anyone continuing on toward downtown Sequim.
The bigger takeaway for anyone who's lived in Blyn a while is simpler than a construction update. Growth here doesn't only show up as a new tower or a new stretch of pavement. Sometimes it shows up as a room getting rebuilt bigger, and a hometown group deciding, within a month, that it's theirs now too.
